The Boat
The boat is 19 years old and was Fontain Pajots first catamaran. The cat is 40” long and 20”wide. There is one head, one double birth and one single birth in each hull. The galley and salon are separate from the birth. There are two 9 hp disel engines,
one mainsail, one spinnaker, one genoa and one jib, all in good conditions. With two large trampolines and plenty of deck space the boat is perfect for this day sailing business. The boat is very light and has excellent performance in light winds.
The Property
The property located on beautiful Isla Carenero in the providence of Bocas del Toro. The island is about 1 ½ miles long and a half mile wide. It has about 200 locals and 50 foreigners living. Foreigners actually own approximately 90% of the island. Many have build there dream house there on the seaside. The property is located one minute by boat across from Bocas main town. There are no cars, full utilities and beautiful breezes. There are a handful of hotels and restaurants on the island as well. The lot is 16m wide and 35m out to the sea, 560sqm, 16m x 8m of that being land. The property is fenced in and the foundation, 2000sqft that is build half on land and half in the sea. On top of the foundation is the frame for the floor designed for a sunken living room. There is enough room on the property to build a small work shed, and a guesthouse or apartment for rental. And plenty of room for a large beautiful dock. This property holds a concession and has been rented the right to be turned into title if used for tourism purposes.
The Business
Catamaran sailing adventure tour has been an operating business in Bocas del Toro for more than four years. The boat has been imported into Panama and has all necessary licenses and inspections for tourist transportation. We have been and are still the only day charter cat on the island. We have consistent groups that come from all around the world and we are featured in many tour guides and travel packages. Our main clients come from reservations but we also have clients from the street and hotels. We have flyers, brochures, and T-Shirts that are consistently distributed around town. We currently employ three people: our captain, our PR on the street, and our boat deck hand. We pay our captain $ 60,- for each tour he does, our PR earns $10, - for an eight hour work day and $3, - for every person he sells a ticket to, and our deckhand earns about $ 10, - a day as well. Our corporation costs $ 500, - a year and our yearly tax costs $ 475, -. We charge $35, - per person including lunch (fresh jumbo sandwich, 1 drink, and fruits) and free snorkel gear from 9:30am to 16:00pm.
Depending how consistent the business is running, a yearly win can be easy $ 60.000, - give or take. Costs are low here so earnings is relative, its easy to save!
The business has a huge potential for growth. Bringing in a second boat, smaller boats and even incorporating a sailing school into it is all possible. The property can be a hub for the business using it for a dock space, classroom, what ever.
